and her memory is slippery
like a winding mountain stream
and her memory gets cloudy sometimes
like a fairy tale, or a dream
- Dave Nachmanoff
And so I write a blog about this experience. As my friend Dave so eloquently puts it, the memory isn’t always perfect.
On 2/18/07 at around 4:15 PM I took a nasty spill off my mountain bike about a mile from my house. While the flight was fun, the landing sucked. I broke my collarbone in 2 places.
This blog chronicles my recovery.
My hope is that anyone suffering from this type of injury can find this blog as a resource that helps them make decisions regarding care and recovery.
I’ve never broken a bone in my body before. I’ve heard stories from friends who’ve broken bones, lost body parts, or other such painful and life altering experiences. Sometimes the tales are pretty outrageous and I can’t help but wonder if time is eaten away some of the detail, and creativity has filled in the blanks. I have certainly been guilty of this on occasion.
Since this is a first for me, and since it isn’t just a “put on a cast and forget about it” type of break, I want to keep the details true. Like all these blogs and other writings we keep, I hope that one day Zed will find his way to these, and know his parents just a little bit better.
Plus, let’s face it, I’m spending 20 plus hours a day in the lazy boy chair… and I don’t watch TV.
Best of luck… it does get better!
